The text is from the blog of Dr. Vasil Zagorov - university lecturer and scientist
A silver spruce was planted at the University of Library Science and Information Technology (UniBIT) in honour of the long-time president of the Bulgarian Library and Information Association (BBIA) and librarian Snejana Ianeva.
The commemorative ceremony was held with the participation of the Rector of UniBIT Prof. Dr. Irena Peteva, the Chairman of the General Assembly Prof. D.Sc. Stoyan Denchev, Snejana's sister Dr. Emilia Ianeva, professor at California State University, representatives of the academic and student community of the university.
The planting of the tree, which took place on Mrs. Ianeva's birthday (March 8), became an occasion to share her library experience with the younger generations.

Snejana Ianeva has chaired BBIA with inexhaustible energy from 2012 to 2019. But her efforts to raise the social recognition of Bulgarian libraries and librarians go back for the last three decades. Under her leadership, a network of American centers at some public libraries in Bulgaria were established. Her contributions, to name only a few of many are projects like Sister Libraries, ABLE, National Library Week - 2006. Thanks to her efforts, a whole generation of Bulgarian librarians got acquainted with the best practices in foreign library experience. Ms. Ianeva established and maintained contacts with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and assisted in the implementation of the project Global Libraries - Bulgaria. Through this initiative – largest one in the last 30 years, our public libraries have significantly changed their appearance and became centers for equal access to information for all citizens. Snejana Ianeva participated and chaired the governing bodies of the Foundation Global Libraries - Bulgaria, established in 2013. She also encouraged and supported in 2017 the first participation of a representative of the Bulgarian academic community in the Board of the prestigious European Library Organization - European Bureau of Library Information and Documentation Associations (EBLIDA). Let the Bulgarian library and information specialists follow her bright professional path!
A bow to you, Mrs. Ianeva!
