National Library “P.R. Slaveykov” Veliko Tarnovo continues the lifelong work and mission of Snejana Ianeva
The professionals, who now lead of the National Library "P.R. Slaveykov" in Veliko Tarnovo are among the people, who Snejana Ianeva encouraged and supported to specialize in the United States and Europe, hoping that they will lead the process of modernization and democratization of Bulgarian libraries. Today we find Associate professor Dr. Kalina Ivanova and Dr. Ivan Alexandrov at the helm of a library with amazing traditions, that now helps Bulgaria keep its identity in the world and in Europe.
As a library that continues today the mission of Snejana Ianeva, the National Library “P.R.Slaveykov” marks the date she was born, March 8 and the Memorial Week in her honour.
On March 8, the International Women's Day, the library named the department for Teens and Adult Readers after Snejana Ianeva, a remarkable woman with an outstanding contribution to the library work in Bulgaria. A sign with her name was placed at the entrance of the big hall of the department and inaugurated by the Director of the library Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kalina Ivanova.
Librarians and guests gathered in this hall and with emotions and respect for this dedicated and patriotic Bulgarian woman, celebrated her birth with a special presentation, which is published on the library website and on the Memorial site for Snejana Ianeva www.snejana-ianeva.org
At the suggestion of the librarians from the Teens and Adult Readers Department, the award by Snejana Ianeva Memorial Fund will be used to provide equipment for a Room for Tales at the Children's Department of the Library. Thus the memory of Sneja will live in the Children’s department as well.
The ceremony of planting an evergreen tree in the library yard was especially moving. Along with Dr. K. Ivanova, a member of the Board of BBIA, the Deputy Director of the library, Dr. Ivan Alexandrov, holder of the Order of “St. Cyril and Methodius”, also participated. Pines are Sneja's favorite trees and they remind us that her ideas, optimism and innovation will live in the hearts of her colleagues and in the best practices of our libraries, that Snejana and her colleagues in Veliko Tarnovo consider temples of tradition and innovation.
