A day dedicated to Snejana Ianeva
"Geo Milev" Regional Library in Montana paid tribute to Snejana Ianeva, Chair of the "Global Libraries - Bulgaria" Foundation and President of the Bulgarian Library and Information Association, who passed on December 26, 2019.
On March 8, 2020 Snejana Ianeva would have turned 68 years old. In her memory, Mrs. Anelia Ivanova - Todorova, Director of "Geo Milev" Regional Library described her memories of their joint work in an essay entitled "The person who changed my life." The library team collected photos from Snejana’s visits to Montana and prepared a multimedia presentation, which was broadcasted to visitors to the library throughout the day.
Snejana Ianeva inspired and was the engine of many important campaigns and initiatives for the development of libraries in Bulgaria. Her contribution can be found everywhere - in the creation of American centers and corners in public libraries in the country, in the campaign "Make your library green", in the introduction of new technologies - 3D printers, robotic toys for fun programming.
Thanks to her, today we enjoy a fruitful professional collaboration with the American Library Association, and many librarians have visited American libraries and have been inspired by library practices in the United States. Snejana was the reason for the invitation and the subsequent close contacts with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the opportunity to implement the large-scale project "Global Libraries - Bulgaria", which over the past 30 years has significantly changed the image of public libraries in Bulgaria and transformed them into centers for equal access to information for all citizens.
During the years from 2005 to 2019 Snejana made many donations to our library - computer stations, educational computer for the little ones, books and much more.
Memorial garden
“Geo Milev” Regional Library - Montana started the design and construction of a Memorial Garden in memory of Snejana Ianeva with her favorite flowers and a bench with a dedication to be located in the Library courtyard.
