Memories by Mlada Todorova, US Embassy staff
Mrs.Todorova did not provide an English translation, but agreed an English summary to be published
Mrs. Todorova has worked at the American Embassy well before March of 1993, when through a competition, Snejana Ianeva became the Director of the Embassy Library to be opened to the Bulgarian public. The library moved to a new space at 18, Vitosha Street in the city center. From the welcoming interior design to the collection of books, university catalogues, newspapers, films and other materials, everything was carefully selected and placed by Snejana and was ready for the opening in 2 months on May 24th. When rain interrupted the opening ceremony, some water started dripping from the glass ceiling of the library. Snejana was among the first to leave the ceremony and take care of the problem. She always was the soul of the Library, an example to librarians in Bulgaria with her innovative library practices who made sure one of the first Internet connections in Sofia was accessible to the general public.
In 2004 the Embassy moved to a new building and the library closed to the public. Snejana Ianeva becаme Director of the Information Resource Center, but she made sure that the books, materials all other assets of the Embassy Library remained accessible to the Bulgarian public at the American Center of Sofia City Library, which she established with the same dedication and hands-on remarkable organizational and professional skills.
All who worked with her for 27 years will remember Snejana as a colleague dedicated to her work and to the people she worked with.
