Спомени на личности

Memory from Diana Velkova – Gradinarova, librarian

I am a librarian at the American Centre at Sofia City Library. When we mention the Bulgarian libraries and the American experience, the first name that comes to mind for all of us, the librarians, is Snejana Ianeva. I admired her intelligence, professionalism, optimism, readiness to help, workaholism. She communicated with the same easiness with people from different social rank. She was a visionary. She thought big. She didn’t give up because of difficulties. She fought with all her strength for the causes she believed in.

The person who changed my life

The person who changed my life

Anelia Ivanova, Director of the Regional Library City of Montana

I don’t remember when I saw Snejana for the first time... I don’t remember when I last saw her... But I saw her in my dream before Christmas – it was a disturbing dream... Snejana Ianeva changed my professional choices, with her energy and her enviable professionalism she returned me to the libraries!

People are important

Krasimira Niagulova – Regional Library “Partenii Pavlovich”- Silistra

Her personal telephone number is written under the name Snejka Ianeva. I knew that I could always call and rely on her for advice – professional or personal. Although I was thinking for a long time to telephone her or not, because she was always busy, should I also engage her. But every conversation was full with warmth, personal attitude and support.

Memory from Tsvetelina Voycheva, librarian

American Center at the Regional Library "Pencho Slaveykov" – Varna

People and events appear in our lives, without that live cannot be fully experienced and we would not be ourselves as people and personalities. This is how we develop and declare to the world that we exist.

Thanks to Sneja's efforts and the support of the US Embassy in Bulgaria, it is an honour and pleasure to be a part of the system of the American centers in Bulgaria since 2008. I have been working in the first American center established in our country in 2004 at the Regional Library "Pencho Slaveykov" - Varna, which is still the most modern and ergonomically equipped place in the library. The American reading room attracts everyone who is interested in American history, culture, art, literature and language. It is a recognized place among the local community and has a different profile of users - professionals, students, pupils, children. This is the place in the library where the most modern and innovative library practices and approaches are applied on.

American Corner at Sofia City Library

I have known Snejana since 2004. At that time, I was one of the librarians in the ABLE1 project, and she was the Director of the IRC at the US Embassy in Sofia. We met in connection with our upcoming trip to the USA. I was impressed by her enthusiasm and her ability to spread her positivism to those around her. I didn't know at that time that she was the engine of the Bulgarian participation in the international program of the American Library Association “Sister Libraries” and the library exchange project. I found out this later, in the process of our work. Those who knew Sneja will understand why. She was the engine of things, not a front person. She stood on the stage as a leader, only where and when it was necessary. People around her were getting endless possibilities for professional development.

Memory from SUSANA VIEIRA

Professor in International Law, BRAZIL

Snejana - Sneja - was a gift I received from my friend Emilia, her sister. In 2012 the International Law Association held its general conference in Sofia. I had never been to Bulgaria before, but I had met Emilia in Hayward, where she teaches and I taught a term. She could only make it to the Conference for the last day, so she asked her sister to take care of me.
