Memory from Savina Tsoneva, Director of the Regional Library “Aprilov - Palauzov”- town of Gabrovo

I met Snejana Ianeva for the first time at a working meeting with the team of the program “Global Libraries Bulgaria”. Later I understood that she was at the basis of the generous donation of “Melinda and Bill Gates” Foundation.

Snejana Ianeva was of many years the Chairperson of the Bulgarian Library and Information Association, the Chairperson of “Global Libraries Bulgaria” Foundation and the Director of the Information Center of the USA Embassy in Bulgaria. We kept very good professional contacts with her. Owing to Snejana Ianeva’s collaboration in the Regional Library “Aprilov - Palauzov” the following projects have been successfully realized: In 2012 the project “American Shelf” of the USA Embassy in Bulgaria was implemented. In the Information Center a corner was designed - with books in English from all spheres of knowledge, American literature and history; the necessary equipment and a computer system at the total value of 6000 US dollars. During the same year the readers of the library received a donation of books in English at the total value of 3000 US dollars by a project of “America for Bulgaria” Foundation named “Books in the English language for the Bulgarian libraries”. Gabrovo Regional Library is one of the tenth libraries in Bulgaria, which received robots “Finch” as a present. In 2016 the USA Embassy in Bulgaria and “Global Libraries Bulgaria” Foundation helped the staff of our library in their training free of charge. In 2019 we successfully took part in the project “Generation Code” of “Global Libraries Bulgaria” about training in programming with Scratch and “Finch” robots. We received as a donation six programmable toys “BeeBot”. Owing to the last two projects and the free of charge lessons in programming 670 children and students from Gabrovo and the region learned how to use the new computer technologies.

On 15-th October 2020, the Bulgarian Library and Information Association posthumously awarded Snejana Ianeva with the annual Lifetime Achievement award (2019) for her outstanding contributions to the development and modernization of the Bulgarian libraries.

Поклон пред паметта й!
