Memory from Regional Library "P. Pavlovich" Silistra

The Regional Library in Silistra participates in a number of national and international initiatives, which are the implemention of ideas of ​​Mrs. Snejana Ianeva or were supported by her.

Regional Library “P. Pavlovich” joined the project Sisters Libraries - 2001 by partnering with the Public Library in Aurora, Colorado. Many initiatives for exchange of cultural and educational practices have been implemented. The Regional Library in Silistra celebrates the American holidays of July 4, Halloween and Thanksgiving. It sends martenitsas and drawings of Bulgarian customs, which are arranged in an exhibition in the partner American library. A librarian from Silistra, Nelly Stoilova, participated in a 20-day internship in the United States. During it, together with other Bulgarian librarians, they visited various libraries in several states, including the partner library.

Exhibition "100 years of Bulgarian-American diplomatic relations" - 2003. The exhibition featured documents from the history of Bulgarian-American diplomatic relations. Many books from the library collection were presented, and the partnership between the Silistra Regional Library and the Aurora Public Library was also presented in a special corner. The exhibition was opened by the cultural attaché of the American Embassy.

ABLE Project (American-Bulgarian Library Exchange) - 2004 -2005.

Seventeen Bulgarian librarians participated in a 6-week training workshop in various American libraries. In 2004, Krassimira Nyagolova from the Silistra Regional Library participated in the training, part of which was a visit to the partner library in Aurora, Colorado, introduction to work with users, preparation and implementation of reading programs, work with partner organizations. Bulgarian librarians participated in the National conference of the American Library Association. They met with senators and other officials during the Advocacy Week in Washington. Following the example of American libraries, a National Library Week has been organized in Bulgaria since 2006. In 2005, Patti Bateman, Director of Library Activities at the Aurora Library, Colorado, visited Silistra. She participated in meetings with librarians, local government officials, students and friends of the library.

A number of practices based on the example of the American library experience were introduced in the Silistra Library. A website was created, 3 reading computer places were set aside, every year the library specialists meet with representatives of the local government during the National Library Week. The library received a donation of a computer, printer and a reading desk.

American shelf - 2007. The opening of a corner with American literature in the Silistra Library became a celebration. A special guest of the event was the American Ambassador John Beyrle, who was welcomed by the then mayor of the city, Ivo Andonov. The American Corner is funded by the US Embassy in Bulgaria. There are shelves with books on various topics in English and Bulgarian. The library received a computer and a printer. During the event, the ambassador also met with library volunteers.

Global Libraries-Bulgaria Program - 2008-2013. The Silistra library received 25 computers for users. Dozens of librarians from the district participated in computer literacy training, library activities, project work and more.

Early literacy station. A special computer designed for children, with dozens of programs for learning English, Spanish, mathematics, science, geography and more. The Silistra Library received the computer in 2012.

"Make your library green" - an initiative that is implemented in several libraries in the country with different activities in different years. The initiative received funding from the US Embassy to promote the activities. In 2018, Krassimira Nyagolova was invited to represent Bulgaria at the first international conference of green libraries, which took place in Zagreb. Her presentation was unconditionally supported by Ms. Snejana Ianeva.

Snejana Ianeva was devoted to Bulgarian libraries. Each of her activities was aimed at raising the image of libraries in society and supporting librarians dedicated to the profession. For those of us who knew her and worked with her, Sneja will forever remain in our thoughts and hearts with gratitude and appreciation.
