A day dedicated to Snejana Ianeva

October 28, 2020 is designated a Day in Memory of Ms. Snejana Ianeva and her inspiring contribution to the creation and development of the American Center. On that day, an online training seminar related to 3D technologies was held. Sneja led a the support for the introduction of 3D technologies in the library environment.

Snejana Ianeva proposed to create the American Space at National Library Ivan Vazov – Plovdiv. The idea was enthusiastically accepted by the library director Dimitar Minev, but there wasn’t a suitable room in the library building. After discussion with the Municipality it was decided to build a completely new and modern center in the courtyard in unison with the common architectural ensemble. After the architect Petko Kostadinov created the project and Mrs. Ianeva managed to provide the funding, the construction began.

On October 30, 2014, during the celebration of the 135th anniversary of the National Library Ivan Vazov, the Deputy US Ambassador Bruce Burton opened the new American Space – a wonderful place and a valuable asset not only for the Library, but also for the city of Plovdiv.

Over time the American Space became a popular, multifunctional cultural and informational center, combining library services with various cultural and educational programs like competitions, exhibitions, lectures, seminars, workshops, discussion clubs, screenings, concerts, etc. The attractive appearance of the space, the constantly enriching collection, and the busy program of events are largely due to the exceptional support of the US Embassy, America for Bulgaria Foundation, and personally to Mrs. Ianeva's efforts.

Our partnership with Snejana was always influenced by her selfless professionalism, wonderful understanding, mutual sympathy, and her relentless pursuit of development and progress in the name of society, learners, curiosity, and young people. With the establishment and support of the American Space in Plovdiv, Mrs. Ianeva proved again that every idea she has taken to heart turns into a pearl that with its brilliance illuminates far ahead, shows the way, leads, teaches, and helps.
